There are a lot of people who say you need to wake up early to be successful. There are a lot of people who challenge that and say you can wake up whenever you want to be successful. I can tell you, from experience with both, it definitely helps to wake up early, if you utilize your time properly.
If you structure your morning to utilize your time properly, I have found it to be massively beneficial and here is why. I wake up at 530-6am, I shoot for 530 but sometimes I sleep in until 6. The world and most people I converse with, usually are not up until 730ish. So, this gives me roughly 2 hours in the morning, undisturbed from reality. I like to spend 45 minutes in my office getting shit done in the morning. When I get up at 530am, I slam a half a glass of water, grab a cup of coffee and go upstairs to my office. I work from 545ish-630ish on whatever tasks I need to complete. I like to do performance tasks that tick myself or business forward.
Some mornings however, if I spent the week doing construction stuff, I may have to play catch up. I may have to review my emails, pay some bills, write task list, etc. If I am doing construction all day, sometimes this is my only time to do this, so I do not have to worry about it all day.
After my 45 minutes in the office, I go downstairs, eat a snack and get ready for the gym. I then hit the gym at 7am and workout until 745. I get ready quick, so I can be to work around 815. Since I own my own company, I get the perks of being able to show up when I want. Usually it is anywhere from 8am-830am depending on how well my office work was or my workout was. I love to do these two tasks in the morning because no one is bothering me at these times. I do not have to worry about my work flow being interrupted. I am able to go to the gym and train, without being interrupted by people who need my attention, once 8am hits.
An added benefit is getting the hard things done early. I know myself very well. I know when I am done with work at the end of the day, the last thing I want to do is go to a crowded gym and workout. I also know, I do not want to do office work every night when I get home. Mostly because I am lazy and secondly because I will be thinking about it all day, when I should be focused on the work at hand.
Now, do I prefer sleeping in? Absolutely yes, sleeping in is wonderful. Do I prefer training in the afternoon, 100%. I have way better workouts in the afternoon than in the morning. However, I do not do most of the things in my life for comfort, I do it for convenience. That’s why I eat the same breakfast, lunch, and snacks every single day. I know you do not need to wake up early to be successful but it helps keep me on track and not get distracted by the day.
If you are struggling to get your critical tasks done each day, I would consider waking up earlier, structure that time in the morning when there is no distractions and get to work.
