Is life actually complex or do we make it complex? I do not think success and happiness are complex. I consume copious amounts of personal development material from highly successful people, like Andy Frisella, Ed Mylett, Rob Bailey, and Alex Hormozi, to name a few, and they feel the same way. This is actually a topic I got from Alex Hormozi on his podcast, The Game. Let me explain why I think life is about consistency and not complexity.
A lot of people think losing weight is complex. It is not, it is super simple. To lose weight, you need to consume less calories, than you burn. If you can consistently do this, you will lose weight. What makes this hard for so many people, is doing this consistently. Most people can do it for a day, or a few days, but they cannot do it for months on end. If you miss a day, its not a big deal, get back on track and win the next day. Once we can consistently do this, then we can add in the next habit. Movement/exercise. Get out and walk 2 times a day, maybe go weight train 3 days a week. If you miss a day, get back on track and win the next day. Super simple to get healthier and more fit, as long as you are consistent with it.
How about business? Once things get a little tough, we think about offering another service or product. We think about starting a new business, we think this will get us to where we want to go, easier or faster. I am very, very guilty of this. I struggle staying on track doing the same things when I am not seeing progress. Although I know, all it takes is to keep consistently doing the same tasks and over time you will see results. It is not complex once you know what to do but it is very difficult to keep doing it day in and day out.
This topic you can bring into any aspect of life. In relationships, it is not about complexity. It is about showing up everyday and giving your best for your significant other. Its about consistently being the spouse you want them to be. If you do not show up consistently for them, they will not show up consistently for you.
Leading by example, which is the best way to lead, is all about consistently showing up and living the standards you preach. These things are not complex, they are simple.
Do the hard thing and keep showing up everyday, doing the tasks you need to do, do not make it harder than it has to be.
