Do you ever feel stressed out about something? How about when you are at work, do you ever feel stressed about things in your personal life? When you are out golfing, participating in a hobby, or at home hanging out, do you ever feel stressed about work? This is very common for most people. We try to be multi-taskers when we are not. So, we worry about work when we are trying to play and we worry about playing, when we are at work. Now let me tell you how to fix this.
BE PRESENT!
That is it, if you are present, while you are at work, worry about the work at hand. Write a list with all of your job duties. So, you can see everything you do, then prioritize the list. Once you have the list prioritized, write a to-do list of all the things you need to do and prioritize them based on your prioritized job duties. Then get to work, focus on the task at hand and fully be present at your task/job.
Once you have done this with work, do the same thing in your personal life. What are all the duties you do in your personal life? For me, I would am a friend, brother, uncle, husband, car enthusiast, weightlifter, golfer, dog dad, maintenance man, cleaner, etc. Make a list of your specific duties and list them from most important to least important. Once listed, is there anything you do not want on that list, if so, look at removing it, to focus more energy and time on other duties. Then, make a to-do list of all the things stressing you out. Like with our job, we are going to start doing the most important things first, then working our way through our list. While doing these duties, WE ARE BEING PRESENT. Be the best husband you can while you are in husband mode, do not worry about work or the other things. When you are mowing your lawn, do not worry about hanging with your friends, get the lawn done, then go hang with your friends. (mowing lawn may be a duty you get rid of, so you can focus more time on hanging out with friends)
So, write down your duties, prioritize them, make a task list, and be present! Then start doing the tasks, you can only be in one place at one time, doing one thing at a time, productively. You can most certainly half ass multiple things at once, which will just lead to more stress, for not focusing on the task at hand. Get the task at hand done and move on to the next one. You will feel the stress come off your shoulders exponentially.
Get out there and lower your stress.
