Right now, a majority of the population lacks structure in their lives. Besides having a set time to go to work, most people just do everything at random. For people that want to be successful, it is important to have a structured day to eliminate decision making and causing mental fatigue. It is also a good thing to have if you have children. Children thrive on structured days (once they get used to it).
Here are some things that everyone should have a set plan for everyday.
– A morning routine
– When to go to the gym
– What you are doing at the gym
– When and what you are eating
– Starting and ending work
– A bedtime routine
If everyday, you knew that at:
6:00 am : Wake up and get ready
6:30 am : Go on 30 minute walk
7:00 am : Shower and get dressed
8:00 am : Starting work
12:00 pm : Go to the gym
1:00 pm : Eat lunch
5:00 pm : Go home
6:00 pm : Eat dinner
7:00 pm: Relax
9:00 pm : Sleeping
How much easier would your days be? Yes, there isn’t a lot of spontaneity, but with owning or running a business you have that all time with decision making. Plus, without a schedule most people waste their time scrolling on pointless apps on their phone or waste it watching hours of TV. If you want to fill some time with that, schedule it in but remember to stick to the schedule.
I have been trying to make a set plan for most aspects of life. For example, before I step foot in the gym, I want to have a plan for what I am going to do that day. Sometimes, I may have to change it a little depending on how my body feels, but if I only have to change 1 or 2 things vs. deciding my whole workout, it is less pressure. Shaun and I at the beginning of the week will discuss what we are having for dinner every night, so we know what to expect and then we don’t have to make decisions. We are the worst two people when it comes to making decisions. If we plan ahead, there is no fighting or grumbling, we know what to expect going into it and it is easier to accept.
If you are bad a making decisions, I highly recommend planning out as many aspects of your life you can. It helps ease the mind and lowers your anxiety when those decision times do come up. Any marriage like mine could definitely benefit from this too. It allows you to focus on each other rather than wasting time making two people who can’t make decisions to make a decision. It is so painful and puts the two of us on edge. Now, we plan ahead and it is so much calmer.
If you have a hard time starting, I would suggest getting a planner or a whiteboard. I have a planner for my work tasks, a white board for looking ahead with plans (which I might start putting dinner plans on too) and my gym notebook and app to help with my workouts. Obviously, you don’t need to get this crazy but starting anywhere is better than not. It will always be an experiment and you have to keep trying until you get to something that works for you.
