Journaling

This week’s Tutors of Life podcast, we discussed the importance of self-reflection. One of the main ways to help you with self-reflection is to journal and you can either do that on paper or online. This episode, made me realize the importance of journaling and tracking that I have forgotten about.

When I journal, I just like to write down some highlights or somethings I could improve on. I like to bullet journal, so it is usually only 3-5 bullets long. Well, during my research for the podcast, I found that there are specific questions you should be asking yourself and journaling about. The questions are:

  1. What went well today?
  2. How can improve for tomorrow?

These questions are so simple, but can make you evaluate yourself on a deeper level. I think these are important to journal about, because then you are able to notice any patterns. Also, you are able to reward yourself by reminding you of the good things that you did as well, which will help reinforce those habits.

So, I have been looking back on the past year, and I feel like I have slacked a lot on my tasks list overall. Well, I started to compare my journal and planner to see when I was slacking the most, and my lack of journal coincided with me not completing tasks as much.

I’m not saying that journaling will help you start being more productive, but it is definitely one of the habits that I need to keep doing in order to stay on my shit. Now, if we look at Shaun, he started slacking when he stopped doing his morning routine. It wasn’t anything complex, but he would get up, journal, read 10 pages and take a cold shower. He got sick of the cold showers, so once he tried to get rid of those, he lost his whole morning routine. Now, he doesn’t do any of those and has felt like he is still accomplishing things, but not as well as he was before. So, habits and routines can really help put your mind in the right track to start getting things done.

Take the time to figure out what you need to do in your life that will help you become more productive and become a better you. Experiment with it, have fun with it, and don’t be afraid to try new things.
