We live in an era of annoyances. It seems like the average person has no common sense, work ethic or manners. Whether you are leading a team and are tying to get your workers to accomplish some tasks, or you are at the grocery store and everyone seems to want to leave their cart in the middle of the aisle, so you have to turn around and come back from the opposite direction. This leaves most people around them to be annoyed.
Shaun and I trying to build our businesses and we deal with a lot of annoyances. These can come from people we work with, customers and technology. We are constantly under some sort of stress or anger from these aggravates. There is one thing that we make sure we do every night to make sure that we are ending our day in a little bit of a better mood. We tell each other our five gratefuls for the day.
These gratefuls can be something small or something big, but it can’t be something that is a given that day. Some days are harder than others on trying to find five things to be grateful for, but we push ourselves to think hard over those day’s events. It can be as simple as “I am grateful for cuddling Mimi this morning” to “I am grateful for going out of my comfort zone and speaking to so and so to get the deal at 123 Main St.” Either way, it is helping put us in a happier mood before we go to bed. You know the saying “Don’t go to bed angry,” this allows you to change your mindset before you fall asleep.
Why is this important? It helps you sleep better! Positive emotions can help you fall asleep faster and get better quality of sleep. Also, when you wake up you will be more likely to feel refreshed and start the day in a more positive mood. There are countless other claims on how going to sleep happier is better for you as well. I believe it, because our bodies thrive with positive energy.
To keep it short and sweet, when you lay your head down on your pillow or if you are having a bad time, speak your five gratefuls.
