Control the Controllables

How often are you stressed out by things you do not have control or say over? Do you get pissed about something you see on the news? Do you let a political candidate ruin your day or week or life? Have you been upset with some ones perception of you? Do you get overwhelmed by your to do list?

Most likely the answer is yes to all of those. At the end of the day, you need to remind yourself. There is nothing you can do about it. All you can do is control your actions, your thoughts, and your emotions.

First thing we are going to do, is, get our emotions under control.

We do this by using our thoughts. Tell yourself those things are out of your control. Then start thinking of what you can control and start writing those down.

Once you have a list of things you can control, order them from most important to least important. Then take action! Andy Frisella recommends 5 critical tasks per day, this is what I mimic in my life. Choose your tasks and start getting after it.

This is controlling your controllables, by taking action on the things you have control over. Don’t think about the competition, don’t think about the people above or below you, don’t think of the naysayers. Focus on what you can do and compete against yourself. Try to be better and more disciplined everyday. Through these actions, you will pass up the competition.
