Whiteboarding

Have you even touched a white board since high school or college? For most people, white boards are meant for the classroom, so why would you use one once you are out of school? Also, what would an average Joe need a whiteboard for?

Here is the answer, brainstorming. You can do it by yourself but most effectively, do it with other people. You all can collaborate and document on the white board your thoughts with each category you are discussing. This brainstorming can be done with family members, spouse, kids, work associates, team members at work, etc.

So, why do you need a whiteboard, why not write it on a piece of paper? Well, you all are not looking at the same thing then. It takes the group aspect of brainstorming out of the picture. It is also significantly smaller, so it may be difficult to fit everything on it. It is also nice to step back and look at what all is written down and try to tie it all together.

So, what is the point, what are you brainstorming?

  • Personal life
  • Business life
  • Projects at work
  • Projects at home
  • A new business venture
  • Whatever you want

We have a whiteboard at our office and we have a whiteboard in our basement. Recently I have mapped out 3 different directions we can take our flipping/construction company. When my brain starts going, I let it run. I write down the possible directions we can go, then I break down each direction with what it would entail. Then at the bottom I ask myself, “is this the business I want?”

For $50 and 10 minutes to hang the board, I think it allows for a lot of creativity, whether you are using it for business or personal.

I highly recommend starting to do whiteboard sessions if you are trying to better yourself in life.
