Hello All!
I’m sure if you used to follow us, you have noticed the lack of posts lately, and if you don’t listen to our podcast, then you probably have been wondering what we have been up to. Honestly, we have just been living life lately.
Shaun, myself and Shaun’s brother, Kyle, combined construction companies at the beginning of 2024. I quit my job as shipping manager at Goldstar due to not getting along with a higher up in February of 2024. So, we kind of got thrown into a lot of chaos right from the get go with that. We had to make sure that our business made enough money to give ourselves, Kyle and our admin, Brooke, wages. We also, kind of went into working with some guys pretty quick and had to quickly figure out, what in the world we were doing.
Shaun and I have been doing business related work for 7 years at that point, so we assumed it would be easy… No… We were highly mistaken. The business portion wasn’t so bad, but figuring out the systems portion of a construction company is a whole new beast. Plus, since we are general contractors, we had to figure out which vendors were good or not good. So, let’s just say, we lost money for a little bit, but now we know who are good companies to work with, and who aren’t. Generally, since then we have figured out what we are doing, but we obviously are always working to improve it.
Next, we had our first child! She is a beautiful baby girl and has been so bright and full of life for the past year for us. So, naturally that has taken up quite a bit of our time. Shaun and I aren’t using daycare, but have been able to find some pretty great babysitters to watch Lily for roughly 20 hours a week at our office, which allows me to get some work done. I was very hesitant on having kids, but to be honest it has been the greatest joy I could ever imagine. I love just watching her go through life. Everything is so fascinating to her, and she makes life so much more fun.
Other than that, I would say we have been slacking on the blog posts, because we haven’t prioritized them as much and distractions have been fueling out lives a little too much. We have recently come to realize that we have a phone addiction issue and that has made us lose some valuable time. Thankfully, we don’t do it a whole lot while we are around Lily, but it still is an issue when we have some free time. One of the things we are both implementing is minimalizing what apps we have on our phones and Shaun has his on grayscale for most of the day. In the next couple of weeks, maybe we will get better at blogging and blog about how we are doing with our phones usage.
So, yeah. Life has been fun and we have been traveling and working and enjoying life. i’m excited to get back on here and start posting more stuff that I have running in my mind all of the time. I hope you guys are excited to follow along with us as we continue to make our selves into our best versions.
